Hollywood Black Film Festival Closing Night

'JADA' ANNOUNCED AS CLOSING NIGHT FILM OF
HOLLYWOOD BLACK FILM FESTIVAL 2008

(June 6, 2008- Beverly Hills, CA) - The 9th Annual Hollywood Black Film Festival (HBFF) will officially conclude with the world premiere screening of JADA, written by Daniel Chavez and directed by Clifton Powell and Robert Johnson. The screening punctuates the 6-day festival celebrating achievements in Black cinema, which kicked off June 3rd in Beverly Hills.
JADA stars Siena Goines as a young mother whose life is thrown into a tailspin when her husband is killed in a suspicious car accident and she and her two teenaged children lose their home. Forced to leave their comfortable, middle-class lifestyle, the family is forced to move to the housing projects where Jada battles to keep her son out of gangs and eventually finds romance with an ex-con until a murder threatens to destroy her life. In the end, Jada and her family learn that everything works out when one has faith in God.

"This film examines the struggles of a young widow who perseveres in the face of adversity in order to keep her family together. The film pays homage to so many single mothers who are faced with bleak circumstances, yet through familial love and faith, are able to prevail. As we conclude this year's festival, we hope audiences will take inspiration from this story's powerful theme," says Tanya Kersey, founder and director of The Hollywood Black Film Festival.
The closing screening will take place on Sunday, June 8, at 7pm at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills. For tickets and more information, please visit www.HBFF.org.
